March 2010
I wasn't sure where to begin with this, It feels a little self indulgent to talk about myself
and believe anyone would be interested enough to learn about my life. But here we go regardless.
I was born very early Christmas morning in 1973. From what I’ve been told it was a mad
dash to the hospital through the empty city streets of Dublin. My parents already had one daughter,
who had been fostered at a young age, and two sons. A few years later another two boys came along.
I admit, I was spoilt from an early age. My interests as a young girl included dancing
(I learned the usual, tap, Irish, jazz ballet and vaguely recall even trying the highland fling at one
stage!), singing ( I can’t sing a note now) and of course I have always loved to write. I began with
short stories and a rough draft about two sisters in a band when I couldn’t have been more than
nine or ten.
The last school I attended was Maryfield College in Drumcondra, by then I planned a
career in catering. Until I left school and actually tried it. Like everything else in life, not as easy as
it looks! So, I switched to retail. Hardware to be more specific and the things I picked up there
still come in handy.
In 1995 my life changed forever when I gave birth to my son, parenting is yet
another thing that isn’t as easy as it looks. Eric was diagnosed as being autistic a few years
later (He’s doing brilliantly now thanks to the wonderful school he attends and all his after
school activities) and around the same time my mum passed away tragically.
By this time I was working in an office and I won’t lie, it was not an easy time. I
found a lot of comfort in writing, I kept a journal and played around with some fiction. Over
the years I have also turned my hand to painting (badly) knitting, sewing, crochet, arts and crafts
(making my own birthday and Christmas cards), sugar craft, which I still do occasionally if asked to
bake for birthdays. Basically, I liked being creative, but I always returned to writing.
